French/History Trip updates:
Updates from the Trip:
Friday’s update - Some great foundations were laid today for our next history module on the First World War. We visited the Somme 1916 museum, then after the students spent a little time exploring the town of Albert, we were joined on the coach by our guide Flora, who narrated the events of 1916 as we visited key sites such as the Lochnagar Crater, the Thiepval monument and a surviving trench system. After the evening meal students formed teams and went head-to-head for a history quiz, before enjoying some downtime in the games room.
Saturday’s update - Today’s activities included a visit to a French hypermarket. Many of the students have gained more confidence when speaking French, and successfully managed a seemingly huge number of transactions buying lots of gifts to take home. Afterwards we discovered which of the students was a ten-pin bowling ace before visiting the larger town of Amiens for a final Christmas market. Time after dinner quickly disappeared as all needed to clean and tidy rooms and complete workbooks before a little free time and an early night.
