Bat Walk Success!

The first HSL bat walk of this academic year took place on Wednesday 9th October from 6:30pm until 8pm. Steve Mason, Community Parks Officer at Cheltenham Borough Council, kindly ran the event alongside Miss Kennedy and brought along some bat detectors borrowed from the University of Gloucestershire.

The rain held off as the group of students, staff, families and friends of HSL walked a muddy route through Burrow's Field hoping for a sighting. After nearly giving up the detectors sprang into action as a couple of bats appeared and flew so close they were within 2 metres! One of the bats was a common pipistrelle, and the other was a whiskered myotis.

Miss Kennedy would like to thank all those who advertised and attended the event - it was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The next bat walk at HSL will take place on Thursday 13th March 2025 at 5:30pm. Hope to see you there!
